Eagle,Chelaberd or Sunburst Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: dated 1291=1874

Size: 6′.6″x4′.11″ (198×150 cm)

This doubly dated attractive Eagle Kazak rug displays a characteristic single ivory medallion enclosing a dark green cruciform central with four yellow flower motifs.The medallion has broad rays containing buds and further buds grow outwards from the medallion.Along the sides are dark and medium blue hooked motifs and the field is scattered with lazy S’s,diamonds and small rosettes.Above and below are angular arches edged with yellow bands displaying chains of half botehs in various colors.There are four dotted barber pole lines,two blue and black reciprocal minor borders and an ivory main border of stars and bars in the Chelaberd manner.At each end is a braided macrame band and an inner flatwoven strip.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition with some areas slightly lower then others.The handle is soft and pliable.SOLD
