Eagle,Chelaberd or Sunburst Kazak rug from Armenia,southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1885

Size: 6′.9"x5′.2" (206×157 cm)

This classic double Eagle southwest Caucasian rug shows two identical rayed medallions in ivory,navy,green,yellow and red.The saturated madder field employs small diamonds and rosettes along the sides.The characteristic ivory main border hosts double attached stars and is flanked by bitonal blue and dark brown reciprocal triangle minor borders,and there are four bitonal barber pole lines and several dark brown solid lines.At each end is a narrow dark brown flatwoven band followed by a warp macrame finishing.The dark brown flat three cord selvedges are intact.The handle is meaty and chunky.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good state and condition.SOLD
