Derbent rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1885

Measurements: 4′.10"x3′.4" (147×102 cm)

The navy ground displays a lozenge lattice enclosing snowflake stars in alternating diagonals of ivory and red.There is a one sided golden yellow sawtooth lattice following the main pattern.There are four decorated borders:a main stripe with diagonal sections in medium blue, yellow,red,ivory and burgundy;there is an inner border with a detached S design;and two similar more stylized S pattern guards with red and ivory grounds.There are red and blue solid lines present.The flatweave kilim ends are intact,the white cotton selvedges are original and the handle is pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in very good condition.SOLD
