Daghestan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea.

Size: 4′.7"x3′.6" (140×107 cm)

This extremely fine eastern Caucasian piece shows an extremely wide variety of stylized flowers set within a curvy hexagonal lattice on an ivory ground.Just beneath the pointed mihrab arch is a pentagonal nested red and green motif.The field design continues on a smaller scale into the spandrels.Among the lesser elements are small stylized plants,combs,rosettes and diamonds.Along the edges of the field is a quincunx pattern stripe.The old red main border shows a characteristic S pattern and is flanked by two equally distinctive rosette minor borders.There is also a burgundy and blue keyhole reciprocal inner border and four bitonal barber pole lines in the border system.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.SOLD
