Daghestan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea 

Age: dated 1295=1878

Size: 5′.5"x3′.6" (165×107 cm)

This finely knotted compact and extremely well executed Daghestan prayer rug displays the characteristic flowering lattice under a faceted rosette filled niche arch on an overall ivory ground.The lattice continues into the spandrels with the addition of botehs,a date and finally colorful tiny diamonds.At the apex of the mihrab is a comb.The flowers in the field are well detailed and semi realistic in design.The complex border system includes a red ground main stripe with a barred S pattern in various colors.There are two rosette and arrow motif minor borders,each on a navy ground,two ivory connected S pattern guards and an inner bitonal red and green keyhole reciprocal and seven barber pole lines.At each end is a well preserved soumak finishing in silk and cotton,a braided band and a warp knot.The colors are crisp and harmonious.The condition is good except for some part of the selvedges need attention.SOLD
