Chi Chi prayer rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1875

Size:  5′.0"X3′.8" (152×112 cm)

The dark blue field shows a kirdaghi pattern under a tall pointed yellow niche arch.The spandrels are adorned with small stylized flowers,rosettes,diamonds,and other smaller geometric devices.The characteristic dark brown Chi Chi border shows rosettes,alternating with diagonal bars and is flanked by minor borders with connected and stepped diamonds and triangle fillers.The outermost abrashed blue border hosts red and ivory ribbon design and the innermost features a brown and ivory triangle pattern.There are four barber pole lines present.The ends have narrow flatwoven strips followed by the remains of knotted warp nets.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.SOLD
