Chi Chi rug (433) – SOLD

2' 0" x 1' 8" (61 x 51 cm)

Chi Chi mini rug from Kuba district, eastern Caucasus, west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Size: 2′.0"x1′.8" (61×51 cm)

The navy field displays four characteristic side-hooked Chi Chi medallions in red and sand.Above is a panel with a date of 1242 and six downward pointing lappets. The date corresponds to 1827 which in our opinion is not correct.Other field elements include lazy S’s,a fringed hourglass and a small star. The green main border employs iconic heart pattern in various colors and is flanked by an inner straw ribbon meander and an outer two tone red and green keyhole reciprocal. There are three red and white narrow barber pole lines present. At the top end is a beige flatweave followed by a closely knotted warp net.All the colors are from natural sources. The rug is in good condition except for a few small old repairs.SOLD
