Chi Chi small rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1296=1877

Size: 2′.1″x2′.0″ (64×61 cm)

This unusually small ivory ground Chi Chi rug displays three columns of the characteristic side hooked Chi Chi elements in various colors.In addition there are small secondary motifs including stars,small cruciforms and tiny diamonds.The innermost border is patterned with divided triangles and bears a date of 1296.The border changes from green to taupe.The yellow main border employs connected colorful rosettes and the outer guard has a medium blue ground with a zig zag ribbon pattern.There are four red and ivory barber pole lines present.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition except for the top end partially missing a couple of lines.
