Canakkale prayer rug from western Anatolia,Turkey

Age: circa 1840

Measurements: 3′.8″x3′.2″ (112×97 cm)

The light red mihrab area and the vertical edge panels are divided by coupled column architectural elements with bases,capitals and impost blocks.In the central field is a yellow and blue four pointed star beneath hanging floral ornament.In addition there are crosses,rosettes,stars and other interesting motifs.A sawtooth reciprocal surrounds the bottom edge of the red field.Above the columns are ivory spandrels with colorful rosettes,stars and stylized botehs.The dark brown main border employs additional rosettes and the flanking minor borders have discrete S patterns.There is a wide selvedge and at the top end there is a red and blue striped kilim finishing.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is soft and pliable.The pile is good and so is the condition.SOLD
