Bordjalou prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1890

Size: 4′.3"x3′.8" (130×112 cm)

The tomato red field hosts two fringed hexagonal medallions in light green,each with a yellow and navy zig zag motif.There are four cartouches,two blue/red and two ivory/red.In addition there are red and yellow small diamonds in the royal blue mihrab arch.The spandrels employ stars,lazy S’s and small diamonds,similar to the ones in the field.The main border has a bold ivory and black stylized keyhole reciprocals,and an additional red and green triangle reciprocals.There are six two tone narrow barber pole lines and three solid blue lines present.The selvedges are banded in pile colors.The handle is meaty,chunky and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
