Bordjalou Kazak rug from Armenia, southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1850

Size: 7′.2″x5′.7″ (218×170 cm)

The classic hooked zig zag ivory main border employs half hooked hexagons as side and end fillers in blue,green,red,yellow and dark brown.The floating red field displays three nested,hooked hexagons in ivory,blue,green and yellow.The topmost medallion encloses a color sampler while the other two show small geometric motifs.In the field there are also two headless human figures,diamonds,lazy S’s,octagons and hooked elements.A yellow border surrounds the red field and is decorated with colorful divided squares.There are four bitonal barber pole lines and several dark brown solid lines in the border system.At the top end is a kilim band followed by a macrame strip and the remains of warp tassels,while at the bottom is a single flatwoven band.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of this rare and beautiful Kazak rug is good.SOLD
