Bordjalou prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1875

Size: 4′.2"x3′.6" (127×107 cm)

The madder red field displays two fringed hexagonal medallions in green and blue,each with a dotted hooked central motif.There are four cartouches-two hexagonal,two octagonal-with stylized plant and star motifs.In addition there are H shapes in the blue niche arch and small rosettes scattered about.The main border has a bold ivory and dark brown ram’s horn reciprocal and an additional running dog reciprocal in green and red acts as an inner frame.There are five two tone barber pole narrow lines and several blue and red solid lines present.The rug has a soft and pliable handle.The weave is quite fine for a Kazak.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
