Bidjow rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 5′.9″x3′.5″ (175×104 cm)

This well woven eastern Caucasian scatter rug shows an abrashed dark blue field with a directional geometric palmette and leaf pattern.Minor elements include:lazy S’s,pseudo dates,leaves,animals,human forms,rosettes and other interesting devices.The burgundy main border hosts widely spaced snowflakes in various colors while the outer black minor border displays colorful floating rosettes.There are four bitonal barber pole lines and one solid line in the border system.Blue cotton is employed in both the ends soumaking and the selvedges.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug has some condition issues and is being restored professionally.
