Baluch rug from Khorasan area,north east Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1870

Size: 6′.5″x3′.2″ (196×97 cm)

The navy ground displays offset rows of ivory stars and abstract floral devices.There is a fractional trellis of blue/green and dark blue serrated leaves.The deep red border displays a dotted and faceted meander in ivory and blue embracing stylized palmettes in the Turkmen manner.The flanking minor borders are in a bitonal reciprocal wave pattern and there are two barber pole lines present.At each end is a broad navy colorfully striped plain weave panel.The wool is soft and the weave is compact.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good pile in general except for some small holes here and there.The narrow barber pole lines on the sides are missing.SOLD
