Bakhtiari soumak bag from south west Persia (Iran)

The deep blue field is almost completely covered by a multilayer hooked lozenge medallion in soft red,green,ivory,yellow and dark blue.There is a narrow inner border in red and green in the reciprocal wave pattern.A striking broad panelled main border in lime green,blue,soft red and brown is decorated with paired multicolor hooked motifs.There are two barber pole lines encircling the whole and similar lines dividing the panels.Most unusual is the ivory kilim weave end panel decorated with two lattice design sections and a third with bird like elements.At the opposite end is a narrow quincunx band and herringbone twining.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of this unusual piece is good.SOLD
