Avunya prayer rug from western Anatolia (Turkey)

Age: circa 1880

Size: 4′.2"x2′.11"  (127×89 cm) with the kilim ends

Under a moss green spandrel panel decorated with tiny flowers is a stepped scarlet mihrab field with a central hooked diamond motif,five stars-in-octagons and numerous lesser navy crosshatches.The dark blue main border shows a progressive flower pattern along the sides and similar discrete flowers at each end.The ivory minor borders display detached diminutive flowers.There are two red guards with tuning fork motifs.At each end is a broad red flatwoven strip.The handle is soft and pliable.The wide selvedges are in red,green,yellow,blue and navy.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.SOLD
