Afshar rug from south east Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Dimensions: 4′.9"x3′.9" (145×114 cm)

The red ground is almost totally covered by a pattern of eight point stars and displays a large sawtooth hexagonal medallion.Within are tiny birds along the edge of the medallion which in turn centers an ivory submedallion.This device is filled with stylized flowers and it’s focus is an eight section red square.There are six patterned borders,the most important of which is a chain of cartouches with internal double palmettes.In addition there is an ivory linked arrowhead innermost border,two red and blue reciprocal running dog stripes,a polychrome banded outer border and finally an outermost quincunx strip.There are two barber pole and three plain framing lines.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition is very good.SOLD
