Qashqai rug from Fars Province,south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Size: 6′.5″x4′.5″ (196×135 cm)

The navy ground shows a pole medallion dominated by two ivory diamonds enclosing variants of the “Qashqai Gul” in red and peach.Numerous animals,rosettes,palmettes,diamonds,lazy S’s and plant forms add charm to the rug.On the sides are triangles in red,blue,peach,burgundy and as well as ivory corner triangles.In the corners are large stylized floriated botehs and numerous tiny birds.The red main border employs serrated leaf and reversing palmettes.It is flanked by abrashed narrow minor borders in boteh design.There are four dotted narrow lines in ivory and blue in the border system.At each end is an extra checkerboard panel in ivory/navy and red/green and is followed by a flatwoven finish.The selvedges are banded in red and green.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
