Panderma prayer rug from Balikesir,western Anatolia (Turkey)
Age: circa 1950
Size: 5′.6″x3′.11″ (168×119 cm)
This modified 18th century Kula pattern on dark blue shows floral columns supporting a tree of life design beneath small floret spandrels.At each end of the field is a brown panel with a chain of palmettes.The ivory main border displays rosettes and palmettes in various sizes and colors.The matching flanking minor borders also show rosettes.There are several wide barber pole lines in the border system.All the colors are from natural sources.The wool is soft,the handle is compact and leathery.The condition is original.
