Shirvan rug from Eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1865

Size: 5'.1"x3'.5" ( 155x104 cm)

The teal field is centered by a vertical keyhole medallion with a square center focused by an octagonal sub medallion.There are ashiks (small sawtooth lozenges) and a section of the diagonal leaf and chalice border in the central medallion which has ivory octagon motifs at each end.There are additional ashiks at each end of the field and numerous colorful rosettes along the sides of the field.These rosettes are repeated in the innermost minor border.The ivory chalice and slant leaf major border is flanked by striped segmented minor borders.There are three quincunx narrow borders and two barber pole lines.At each end is an original ivory kilim.The colors are from natural sources.The weave is tight and compact.The rug is in good condition.SOLD
