Malayer rug (118) (940)

Malayer rug from North West Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Measurements: 4'.3"x3'.5" (130x104 cm)

The spaciously open ivory field of this finely knotted Malayer rug is centered by a small lozenge medallion with two arrowhead finials and is anchored at the four corners by geometric botehs. There are three important patterned borders:the centered stripe has a herringbone design;it is filled by red and ivory running dog minor borders;finally, there are two plain burgundy borders. The ivory field tone is warm and the rug has an overall austere and powerful character. All the colors are from natural sources. The rug is in good condition except for the top end missing a few lines.

Through our efforts to provide the highest quality images, we use very high resolution photos. If you cannot see the whole rug please try refreshing the page - Some long rugs may not fit without zooming.
