Kozak prayer rug from Western Anatolia,Turkey

This unusual Western Anatolian village rug displays a celadon green mihrab beneath the ivory spandrels.Stylized tulips fill the spandrel area and a further tulip emits stylized flowers at the base of the mihrab.There are geometric carnations,tulips and other classic flowers in the mihrab area.The well abrashed madder main border employs wheel like rosettes alternating with smaller rosettes,hyacinths sprays and smaller geometric devices.There are two minor borders:The inner bright red stripe is decorated with rosettes while the outer red frame alternates rosettes and geometric vine sections.There are four barber pole lines and an extra line at the very top.At each end are narrow kilim finishes.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition is good with evenly low pile.
