Bergama bag (187) (854)

Age: circa 1885

Dimensions: 1'.10"x2'.1" (56x64 cm)

A colorful flattened lozenge pattern closely covers the field of this unusual bagface.Within each diamond is a hooked motif in light blue, dark blue, ivory, yellow and red.The madder red weft faced kilim ground is visible only in small areas of the field and in the triangular fillers as well as the ends.At one end of the central panel is a strip in which the allover pattern is modified slightly. An ivory zig zag dominates the main border especially in the wide side sections.Barber pole lines flanked by solid brown lines constitute the side minor borders. The horizontal minor borders are narrow barber poles. At each end is a red and brown plain weave band sewn under. The colors are in harmony. There is a fair amount of fuchsine in the field. The condition is very good.
