Shirvan rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1910

Measurements: 7'.7"x4'.0" (231x122 cm)

This west Caspian rug is in the Karagashli style,woven in both the Shirvan and Kuba districts,with fine linked hexagonal medallions and terminated by red sunburst motifs.Often the beautifully abrashed "S" main border is yellow,but here it is a rare medium blue.The flanking red minor guard borders add charm to the rug.There are several barber pole narrow lines present.All the colors are from natural sources:Blue from indigo,red from madder and yellow from weld or larkspur.The condition of the rug is very good including the original ends and sides.
