Kirman mat from South East Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1900

Measurements: 2'.2"x1'.10" (66x56 cm)

This Kirman piece depicts the famous dervish Nur Ali Shah.He is seated on a stylized tiger pelt and is equipped with an elaborate kashkul (begging bowl) and his ceremonial axe.In a garden,a flowering tree with birds bends over the dervish and he faces a stylized flowering plant.The attractive navy main border features a red undulating vine with delicate plant tendrils.All the colors are from natural sources.The weave is extremely fine and tight.The wool is velvety and the condition is very good.
