Soumak rug from Eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 6'.5"x4'.7" (196x140 cm)

The abrashed tomato red field is centered by four unusual medallions in blue and green. There is a delightful scatter fill of various rosettes and rocketship like devices. The brown main border has a zig-zag pattern with polychrome fillers and is flanked by ivory minors. There are also two additional borders:an inner keyhole reciprocal and an outer running dog pattern. All the colors are from natural sources. The condition is good except some minor wear,a couple small of patches and loose side cords.

Through our efforts to provide the highest quality images, we use very high resolution photos. If you cannot see the whole rug please try refreshing the page - Some long rugs may not fit without zooming.
