Kuba rug,possibly Konagkend from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1885

Size: 4'.11"X3'.10" (150x117 cm)

The navy field is centered by a tripartite rectangular panel with octagons on ivory and a large red octagon on light blue.Stepped medallions in red,ivory and yellow surround the central panel.The beautifully abrashed yellow main border shows connected,serrated medallions in red,blue and ivory.The innermost minor border presents an unusual H and triangle repeat,while the other minor borders show colorful rosettes on a dark brown ground.There are five bitonal barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a perfectly preserved warp macrame finish.The handle is moderately flexible and the weave is compact.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of this rare and charming rug is good.SOLD
