Red ground Shirvan rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1885

Size: 4'.11"x3'.7" ( 150x109 cm)

The abrashed red ground of this Karagashli style Shirvan hosts a pole medallion of three stepped and nested hexagons with serrated dark brown cartouches at each end.In the field are numerous volute knots,rosettes,lazy S's,botehs,quincunxes,hooked diamonds,combs,and small medallions,detailed in various colors.The border system is centered by a yellow main border of detached colorful rosettes.The outer dark brown frame shows octagons alternating with arrowheads while the outer edge of the field is surrounded by an abrashed blue keyhole pattern.There are three barber pole lines present.At each end is a narrow beige flatwoven strip followed by the remains of knotted warp nets,All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.
