Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1880

Size: 4'.6"x3'.9" (137x114 cm)

The dark blue field is neatly covered by steep diagonals of serrated botehs.The pattern continues into the spandrels.The pointed niche arch shows a leaf-boteh and a bar chain.There are combs and animals decorating the spandrels.Tiny botehs and other decorations appear in the interstices of the field.The red main border has a close multicolor S motif and is flanked by dark brown connected rosette design.There are five yellow quincunx guard lines and a red and blue keyhole reciprocal abrashing to blue/green at the top.There are three bitonal barber pole lines in the border system.The handle is soft and pliable.The colors are vibrant.The condition is good except for the missing selvedges and a few small areas with wear.SOLD
