Bergama rugs are from Western Anatolia. This charming one is circa 1880,measures 4'.7"x4'.10" (140x147cm) good condition, original ends and sides, nice colors, soft handle, unusual center and border design. The squarish size is not common in Western Anatolian weavings and besides the size this has an unusual center and minor border as well. The blue field is filled with dotts, corner panels and a rare center design. The main border is often used in weavings from the Western Anatolia region but the blue minor border which is the outer narrow border is rare.It is quite interesting and beautifully drawn.Although the rug has many colors they are all in good harmony. The rug has Gordes knot which is also called Turkish knot.
