Afshar rug,Kerman Province,Southeast Persia,circa 1890.Measurements:7'.3"x4'.11" (221x150 cm).The dark blue field with a busy scatter fill of flowers,trees,domestic animals,etc.is centred by an ivory pole medallion of three hexagons each of which contain four large chickens and have other smaller animals strewn about.The striped corners are taken from Persian shawl designs.The borders are all classic to the Afshar design canon.The flatwoven ends are original.The pile is especially soft and silky.The rug is in excellent condition.
