Shirvan prayer rug (145)

Shirvan prayer rug from Eastern Caucasus.This rug is very similar to the rug number 105 under Caucasian rugs section and most probably they both are from the same area.It has quite a rare field design which is associated with South West Caucasian rugs not with Eastern Caucasians.It is circa 1880,measures 5'.2"x3'.0" (157x0.91cm) and has a soft handle.The rug has beautiful camel color as well as red,blue,yellow etc.The madder color main border has attractive repeat elements in different colors which are in good harmony.It has the same borders as number 105 except the narrow yellow border which is well placed.The blue color mihrab is surrounded by the field design elements.It is interesting that there is only one row of yellow crab design in the ivory field compare to the blue and red ones.The minor borders are in different colors and filled with flowers.The reciprocal design which is surrounding the ivory field is meticulously drawn and goes well with the rest of the rug.
