Derbent rug (97)

Derbent rug from Eastern Caucasus in good condition.The rug has a soft handle,thick pile,circa 1890 and measures 4'.9"x3'.4" (145x102cm) It has a very unusual and rare design which is not common in Caucasian rugs.The palmette look elements with red and ivory centers in the field are quite attractive and create a nice contrast with the blue field.There are also hooked diamonds in the middle of the palmettes in red and yellow colors.The reciprocal border is surrounding the main field and next to it there is a simple but powerful ivory border.The outer brown background color border has small wheels in different colors.The narrow barber pole borders and narrow red plain lines are in between the field and the borders.The condition is good and the rug has its original ends and sides including the knotted ends.The knots are thick and the rug is very solid.
