Akstafa prayer rug from Eastern Caucasus in rough condition.The size is 5'.8"x2'.10" (173x0.86cm) ivory field,low pile in the middle,interesting details such as animals,circa 1880 and nice colors.This rug has a very attractive field design with botehs all in different colors and each row facing the opposite direction.Although the border is Caucasian it is quite unusual to see that in an Akstafa rug.It is simple but powerful with a nice madder field surrounded buy two minor borders with dark brown background.The mihrab is nicely drawn which has animals outside and other details inside such as comb,small arch etc.It requires creativity and good taste to put all these colors together and have the harmony.
