Bordjalou Kazak rug from Southwest Caucasus. The size is 7'.2"x4'.7" (218x140cm) It is circa 1880,has powerful border, soft handle and attractive design. This rug is quite interesting because it has a Bordjalou Kazak border and a Karatchoph Kazak field. Both designs are from Southwest Caucasus but to see them in one rug is rare. The rug has light blue field, two ivory boxes and three red medallions. The field has other small elements like dotts, small boxes and most importantly a thick dotted line going all around the center. The border is very much associated with Bordjalou Kazaks and it is very attractive and eye catching. The purple color is a big addition to the rug which we see in the main border. The minor borders have the "running dog" design in red and blue. The handle is quite soft but the rug is solid and even one end has its original kilim finishing. The red and yellow barber pole narrow borders are well placed and give the rug a nice look. The change of color in blue is called abrash. It is not a restoration but just a different shade which many old rugs and carpets have.
