Alpan Kuba rugs are very popular among Caucasian rugs and red background ones are quite rare.This one is circa 1880,good condition,measures 4'.6"x3'.4" (137x102cm) nice colors,original ends and sides.This rug has an unusual and attractive color combination.The medallion and the four pink cartouches around it are common in Alpan Kuba rugs.In this case the weaver wove an ivory main border and two minor borders in different designs and colors.The main border and the blue minor border are creating a nice color harmony between the red field and outer minor red border.The small multicolor diamond like elements and hooks in the field are great additions to the piece.
