Avunya prayer rug (4)

Avunya rugs are from Western Anatolia.This is a prayer one with soft handle,circa 1870,nice colors,good condition,unusual graphic and measures 3'.11"x3'.9" (119x114cm) The rug belongs to a small group which is close to Bergama area.It has an unusual and attractive blue mihrab which dominates the field.The ivory field is filled with small dots which give a vibrant look to the rug.If one looks at the rug carefully a second mihrab can be seen in red color right next to the blue one.The medallion,flowers and all the other elements in the field are in good harmony.The main border is yellow and well decorated.On the other hand there is another border with madder color which goes well with the rest of the rug.The minor borders are full of irregularities which is a typical sign of a tribal piece.
